Following on from post back in December 2012 on Copyright Issues
On 20th December 2012 I applied to Royal Mail for permission to upcycle used postage stamps in the making of badges, Keyrings and similar products.
After several weeks of phone calls and emails back and forth, I finally received permission today.. Yipeeee.
So it is with great delight that I can finally share images of my creations using upcycled stamps issued by the Royal Mail.
Stamp collecting is generally accepted as one of the areas that make up the wider subject of philately, which is the study of stamps. The origins of philately lie in the observation that in a number of apparently similar stamps, closer inspection may reveal differences in the printed design, paper, watermark, colour, perforations and other areas of the stamp.

Thats great news Sue, its hard to believe its taken them this long to give an answer when im sure other people have asked this question hundreds of times before from them. Or, i wonder, do people just use them in upcycled items without permission.

Gaynor, I know I couldn’t believe how long it took to gain permission either. I think many crafters do request permission to use copyright images, however I guess there maybe those who are unaware that the images they are using are copyright protected. And or that they need permission / a license to use them, even when upcycling.
At least youre covered and anyone who buys from you knows that youre legal and above board with everything as you go to a great deal of trouble to ensure that you have copyright permission and that youre items are the genuine article.
